When it comes to marketing, taking a look ahead is just as important as taking a look back. According to a study by Ignite Visibility, small and large business marketing dollars will greatly shift from offline to online marketing by 2021.
Of the 300 businesses who contributed to the study, 90% said they would be shifting more of their marketing efforts to digital in the next few years. Digital marketing consists of email, social media, website development, video, search engine optimization (SEO), digital advertising, and more. Of these efforts, social media marketing is the fastest growing aspect that businesses are implementing in their current and/or future marketing plans.
To date, there are nearly 3.397 billion social media users throughout the world with the average user spending at least 116 minutes on social media a day. That gives people exposure to hundreds of paid and organic content daily. Social media is an easy form of digital marketing to invest in because you can create content that is purely organic (meaning no paid dollars added) or paid through boosting certain posts. Even paid social media marketing is a lower form of ad spending compared to SEO or digital advertising.
According to the study, many businesses “often start with social media, which is very low cost, graduate to SEO and online advertising, and then, eventually build an email list and work on email marketing.”
SEO helps increase a business’s online presence by increasing traffic to your website through specific keywords and high online rankings. Google prioritizes websites by ranking them by how much people search for certain keywords that pertain to a specific business. According to the study, all types of businesses will invest in SEO at some point within the next 2 years in order to broaden their reach online.
While many businesses in the study plan to spend less money on email marketing at first, they do want to implement it into their overall digital marketing plans. Email marketing takes time because you have to build an email list through sign-ups, referrals, promotions and other form fills. Once businesses have a solid strategy, they will be able to broaden their digital reach through email marketing strategies.
