Graphic Design? Don’t you have to go to school for that? Not necessarily! In today’s digital age, there are always online programs or apps that can give you the ability to create gorgeous graphics with little to no effort.
With so much out on the Internet, it can make a person wonder…how can my business stand out on social media? The simple answer to that is to add visuals.
According to the Digital Marketing Institute, 90 percent of the information that comes to the brain is visual. Visuals pack more power into your digital marketing strategy because they make people want to look while also driving your engagement. People see before they read. To keep up with this growing visual trend, it is important to know how to create your own graphics or outsource someone to make them for you.
Read our 5 tips for creating effective and gorgeous graphics even if creativity isn’t your strong suit:
1) Colors.
Color draws people to look at graphics. If your brand colors are more monotone colors such as black, gray and white, try adding a pop of color somewhere on your graphic to make people want to look at it. It can be as easy as adding a border, coloring the text or putting a red tint on a photo.
PRO TIP: Use colors wisely especially when it comes to text! Colors of vibrant contrast do not show up well together such as red and green or red and purple-blue. Black and White are always best for colored backgrounds. However, if you are going to use color, you need to make sure it blends well such as red and gray or red and yellow.
2) Brand Fonts.
Fonts are fun. They can be boxy, curvy, unique and beautiful. With so many different styles to choose from, it is important to choose one main font and a supporting font for your brand. They can be the same style as long as there is a variation such as bold or italics, or you can add another supporting font.
3) Photos.
An eye-catching picture can do a lot for your engagement. Photos can be used to promote products, create a call to action and even provide a good background for a bit of text or a quote. You can even brighten them up on your social media pages with Facebook and Instagram, or you can use easy editing apps such as VSCO and Adobe Lightroom to make your photos more professional.
4) Consistency.
Followers LOVE consistency. Whether it is similar color palettes on each post, using the same font or organizing your photos by color, topic or quotes, consistency is the key to making people want to see and interact with what you are posting.
PROTIP: Want to keep a consistent Instagram page? Try using apps such as PLANN, Plannoly, Preview and Unum to make your Instagram page consistent by color contrast, quotes and much more!
5) Sizing.
Remember, every social media platform has different sizing for their images. Make sure that the photos you are using will not get cut off or skewed once you upload them.
